Shell Lake is a city in Washburn County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,309 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Washburn County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.2 square miles (26.5 km²), of which, 6.2 square miles (16.0 km²) of it is land and 4.0 square miles (10.4 km²) of it (39.33%) is water.
